The Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Breast Cancer Health Project

I was contracted for the photography for this project in 2004. It was a breast cancer health awareness project put together by Rowan Frost with the help of Wingspan and the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Tucson Arizona.

Posters and postcards were created for distribution to promote awareness of the risks of breast cancer in the queer community for bio females, transgender females, and transgender males. Graphic Design by Godat Design

Beyond Bodies. Choreographed by Jen Hoefle

"I wish to thank all of the women who shared their stories with me. This piece is dedicated to the hope that we may love ourselves as more than bodies, that we may dance our way into wholeness." --Jen Hoefle, choreographer, dancer

I was contracted to photograph slides for the opening sequence of the performance of "Beyond Bodies" in association with Zuzi Dance Company in Tucson, for their Solstice show, 2003. This piece was Jen's attempt to express in movement what she had researched for her graduate thesis. I literally read the entirety of Jen's thesis to prepare for this shoot. The show opened with the dancers who participated in the performance (who are also the models in the photos) speaking about their experience with their bodies in relationship to dance while the slides were being shown. Not only was the photo shoot an amazing moving experience for me, but watching the dancers move really made it hit home for me. I would like to express my feelings of gratitude for each and every dancer who participated in this project and shared themselves so openly and intimately. --Kina
